Christmas 2014: Part 1

So, it is that time of year again.  Time to start thinking of what to get the kids for Christmas.  I have been thinking of this a lot lately and I have finally come to the decision they are NOT getting any “toys” this year.  We have a billion of them, and they barely play with what they have.  So, I have picked 1 category for each child and am gonna get them 2 or 3 things from that category and then some things that will be stocking stuffers.

Some of you might be wondering what categories I am choosing and why I chose them.  Well, I thought about what they like to do, what they like to play with, and it seemed pretty simple.  For Brianna, she loves stuffed animals, but only has like 2 maybe 3 that are hers.  I plan to get her a couple teddy bears and maybe a couple of accessories to go with them.  Kira is getting into dress up.  She has some now (thank goodness for Halloween) and she loves to get dressed up in them.  So we are getting her some more dress up stuff and maybe a trunk to put it all in.

I am also getting the girls a few books each.  Some of those will be wrapped up and used as part of an advent calendar which is becoming a new tradition starting this year.  I’m gonna wrap some Christmas books along with some non Christmas books and each of the girls will get to choose 1 book to read before bed.  Some will be new, some will be old, but it’s just fun to unwrap presents.

In the girls stockings they will find crayons and paints and glue sticks and all kinds of fun art and craft supplies along with a voucher to a local pizza place which has inflatables to jump in.

Altogether, for the girls, I plan to spend about 100-120 on everything.  I know this may seem like a daunting task, but after thinking this through I am sure I can pull this off.  Have you thought about the holidays yet???

From This Momma Blogger’s Heart

Today, there is no major message, no “planned post”, in fact, it is 12:30 am as I’m writing this.  I have been avoiding blogging, and for a while I really didn’t know why.  I had the best intentions to write blog posts at night when the kids are in bed, or on the weekends, it just kinda never happened.  I’m not even really sure how or when I realized why I’ve been avoiding my beloved blog that I used to (and still do) care so deeply for.

So, here’s the scoop.  I am a perfectionist.  There, I said it.  I have to have stuff PERFECT or I won’t do it at all.  Now, before you all go and start commenting, “no on is perfect” I know this.  In fact, that was the reason I wanted to blog in the first place.  I wanted to show the world what a real life totally NOT put-together family is like.  We don’t eat balanced meals, I am not at all crafty, I’m not a great chef.  Our family is average (to say the least).  I’ll admit, I get discouraged at times when I so desperately want to have Pinterest “worthy” posts with amazing pictures and 100 (at least) re-pins.  I’ll be honest with you though, it’s not worth the pressure.  I can’t take the thought of having to “live up to” those standards.

So where does this leave the blog???  Well, I’m glad you asked.  It means the blog will continue.  It won’t be this amazing place where people come to find inspiration for crafts and parties and such.  It is going to be, my heart.  My life, my suggestions and advice and attempts at other peoples’ Pinterest worthy posts.  There will be no scheduled posts (at least not as in “series”) I will just post, (hopefully) daily on things that, well, I wanna post about.

I’m not “giving up” my dream of where this blog is going, I’m allowing it to develop the way it is suppose to and NOT letting my insecurities or perfectionism get in the way of truly reaching out to people.  So, with that being said Today (Tuesday Oct. 21) is my Birthday, so my plan is to not really do much of anything and let “But Dad” do it all, however, I will be back at it on Wednesday.  Thank you all for your continued support and reading this here blog of mine.  I am going to leave you with a link to a video that truly changed my life.  It is from the OWN show, and this woman who was interviewed is AMAZING!!!  I am a completely (well okay, almost completely) different person since watching this video.

Things That Work for Me: Week 1

I was toying around with some new series to write on the blog, and I figured that giving you tips, things that have worked for us would be a great way to end the last 3 months of this year.  This week I am gonna talk about personal routines.  I know many of you try to keep your kids on some sort of schedule, however, this is more personal.  This is NOT for the “Family” this is for YOU.

I often find myself running in circles trying to get stuff done, only to realize that I’m not getting nearly as much done as I was hoping.  I end up exhausted and then frustrated by my lack of accomplishment.  For the past 2 weeks however, I have been implementing routines into my day.  Not, schedules, no real time-frame, just an order in which certain daily activities get done.  I have talked several times about my “To Do List” (which I still use, and writing it out is actually part of my routine) but this goes a step further by creating habits and productivity.

Everyone has different needs and different routines, but this month is going to be my month of accountability and creating habits that will help as we move into the Holiday Season.  Join me in my routine challenge.  Pick 1, 2, or more routines and lets start to feel more productive, and less frustrated.

Top 5 Tuesdays: Reasons I Love October

I can not believe it is OCTOBER tomorrow.  The holiday season is in FULL SWING, as I am seeing pumpkins and snowmen together at the grocery store… happy hallowthanksmas.

So, October is my absolute FAVORITE month of the year, here are my Top 5 Reasons

1. The weather turns crisp and cool, but not exactly cold yet.  I love wearing hoodies and sweaters, and not having to bundle up is nice.

2. Pumpkin EVERYTHING.  I LOVE Pumpkin… Enough said :)

3. The leaves up here in Northern Indiana are gorgeous this time of year.  Makes for some awesome photographs.

4. My Birthday!!!

5. Halloween!!!  Halloween is tied with Christmas as my favorite season.

Welcome to another Makin’ It Happen Monday.  This has been one of the craziest few months, and I have a lot of ideas now to share with you.  Today I will be talking about making a pantry.  We have a SMALL kitchen.  I mean VERY small.  I often didn’t have the room I would like to truly stock up on things when they were on sale.  So, one day, I realized our “coat closet” really wasn’t being used.  I found new homes for the few things inside, and then bought a shelving unit.  It wasn’t a huge makeover, but it definitely helps us with more food storage.  I keep our back stock in the “pantry” now and the food we are going to be using soon in the cabinets.  It also is a great place to store larger appliances we don’t use very often.

There are 2 groups of parents in this world, those with only 1 child, and those with more than one child.  Having more than one child, there are things you do that may seem off to those who only have 1 child, or even to those whose children are far apart in age.  With Brianna growing quickly, I took the opportunity to try on some clothes that were the “wrong season” but just too cute to not get a pic.  This weeks Coffee Break photo is one of those attempts at a super cute “outfit”

Top 5 Tuesdays: Ideas for Theme Dinners

Top 5 Tuesdays: Ideas for Theme Dinners

In our house, we do a lot of theme dinners.  It helps me change up the menu and still keep to things that my family likes.  I find that you can have almost the same thing once a week, and it usually goes over better than if you did it 2 or more times in the same week.  So here are some ideas to get you started.

  1. Pizza Night.  Every Friday is pizza night at our house.  Sometimes it’s delivery, sometimes it’s frozen, sometimes homemade, but Pizza is a staple for Fridays
  2. Mexican.  We use to have Taco Tuesdays, now I just try to make it something mexican, (Think Tacos, enchilladas, Burritos, Quesadillas)
  3. Italian. Spaghetti, Ravioli, Pasta Alfredo.
  4. Comfort Food. Meatloaf, Mac n Cheese, Chicken and Dumplins.
  5. Fast Food Make-overs.  Burgers and fries, Philly steak sandwiches, Chicken fingers, things you would order at the drive-thru, but know you could do better at home.

Those are 5 great ideas for Theme meals.  Do you have “theme meals”???  What are your favorite theme meal ideas???

Well, it’s Wednesday again, Hope you have had a great week so far.  Today’s coffee break pic is a great shot of Kira.  She has been learning from older cousins all about sports, and here she is trying to shoot a basket.  She’s pretty good for only 2.
